In Late 2009, I looked into VOIP - seeing that it could probably cut our phone costs by about 70%. With a background in software development, I was sceptical about using open source (free) software. I chose a system called 3CX which cost about $1000 for the features I wanted (plus the cost of a machine to host it on). The next 18 months or so were an absolute nightmare. I went through 5 "experts” - about 3 routers (one of which was around $2000) - and I even tried completely rewiring our network because calls were dropping out.  Very stressful.

Kyle from Real IT approached me about the TrixBox system earlier in 2011, and I said we would try it but to take a backup so we could quickly go back to what was there already.  He installed it, and I was pleasantly surprised. Finally some stability - I don't have to think about the phone problems anymore!   We don't have many simultaneous calls, but - the difference between the old and the new for me is a huge relief. Since then we have upgraded our internet connection as well - so now we can cope with many more simultaneous calls as we grow.
